A WordPress project is easier to manage when decisions are made in the order they affect the work. Before choosing a theme or starting design, identify what visitors need to do and what the business must be able to maintain after launch.
Set the project boundary
List the main audiences, the pages they need, the actions they should be able to complete, and any systems the site must connect to. Separate launch requirements from later improvements. For each requirement, name the person who can approve it and the evidence that will show it is complete.
Prepare content and access early
Collect approved service descriptions, product information, images, policies, contact details and existing analytics access. Record who owns the domain, hosting account, WordPress administrator account and key integrations. Keep credentials in the business’s password manager rather than in email or a shared document.
Review the design against real tasks
Test representative journeys on a phone and desktop: finding a service, comparing options, submitting a form, booking or making a purchase. Check that headings explain the page, calls to action are clear, forms ask only for necessary information, and errors tell people how to recover.
Use a launch checklist
- Review menus, page links, forms, email notifications and confirmation messages.
- Check image sizes, alternative text, page titles, headings and indexability settings.
- Test keyboard access, colour contrast, zoom, small-screen layouts and common browsers.
- Confirm backups, software update responsibilities, analytics, redirects and domain renewal.
Hand over a site the team can operate
Before launch, document how staff will edit common content, add a user, restore a backup and request help. Confirm who maintains plugins, themes, hosting and security settings. A clear handover reduces avoidable delays when the first update is needed.
For a Mississauga business, the project plan should reflect its actual services, customers and internal capacity. A short requirements list and a tested launch checklist are more useful than adding features without an owner or a clear purpose.
